Facility certification

A certified facility is more than a groomer with a badge.

Certified TANDEM Cat® Grooming Facility status describes a system: feline-specific architecture, two-person staffing, movement-responsive handling, sanitation, equipment adaptation, clinical documentation, escalation protocols, and the operational capacity to receive complex cats.

Facility-level requirements

The environment must make feline-specific care operationally possible.

Certification is not only about technique. It examines whether the business can consistently staff, equip, document, sanitize, modify, and escalate care at the level the method requires.

2

Two-person care capacity

The schedule, staffing, compensation, and workflow must allow a dedicated handler and groomer rather than treating support as an occasional extra.

Cat

Feline-only or feline-specific design

Rooms, entry systems, sound, surfaces, equipment, drying, containment, and movement paths are designed around cats.

Safe

Safety and escalation infrastructure

Clear thresholds for pausing, staging, medication planning, veterinary clearance, emergency response, and case deferral.

Clean

Sanitation and equipment standards

Cleanable surfaces, tool disinfection, coat-contamination procedures, and equipment adapted to feline anatomy rather than dog-scale defaults.

Note

Clinical documentation

Aftercare notes, observed conditions, scales, recommendations, and continuity information are part of the service—not an optional add-on.

Learn

Training and continuous adaptation

Staff development, supervision, case review, skill progression, and willingness to replace old methods when better ones become available.

Cats in the City as a certified facility

The system is built across multiple connected locations.

Cats in the City operates four feline-care locations with shared workflows, training, documentation, equipment standards, and staff movement across sites. This allows the organization to route routine and complex cases without treating each shop as an isolated business.

What certification signals to guardians

The business has prepared for more than the easy cat.

No certification guarantees that every service can be completed in one visit. It signals that the facility has a structured method for assessment, support, adaptation, documentation, and safe limits.

ReadyStaffing and rooms designed for feline handling variability
AdaptiveMethods change with age, anatomy, mobility, medical needs, and behavior
DocumentedCare observations and next steps are communicated clearly
BoundedTeams know when to stop, defer, medicate, or involve a veterinarian
Professional pathway

Facility certification builds on individual skill and operational maturity.

A facility may include certified groomers, developing groomers, handlers, bathers, driers, managers, and support staff. The system must ensure appropriate supervision and role clarity across the team.

1

Train people

Develop handling, bathing, drying, grooming, observation, and case judgment.

2

Build infrastructure

Align rooms, equipment, sanitation, scheduling, records, and staffing.

3

Verify practice

Demonstrate that standards exist in real workflows, not only in policy documents.

4

Maintain standards

Continue supervision, review, adaptation, education, and corrective action.

For guardians

Use the facility standard to understand what you are choosing.

Ask about staffing, feline-only design, handling methods, documentation, complex-case experience, medication planning, and what happens when a cat cannot safely continue.
